Dan Hurley: From Player to Coach

Hurley's Playing Career

Daniel Hurley was born on January 16, 1973, in Jersey City, New Jersey. He attended St. Anthony High School in Jersey City and then played college basketball at Seton Hall University. At Seton Hall, Hurley was a three-time All-Big East selection and led the Pirates to the NCAA Tournament in 1994 and 1995.

Hurley's Coaching Career

After graduating from Seton Hall, Hurley began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Wagner College. In 2001, he became the head coach at Wagner and led the Seahawks to the Northeast Conference championship in 2003. In 2006, Hurley was hired as the head coach at the University of Rhode Island. He led the Rams to three NCAA Tournament appearances and was named the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year in 2014.

In 2018, Hurley was hired as the head coach at the University of Connecticut. In his first season, he led the Huskies to the NCAA Tournament. In 2019, Hurley led UConn to the Final Four. He is now in his fifth season as the head coach of the Huskies.
