Lockheed Martin's AIM-260 JATM Missile Set to Enter Production

Accelerated Production Planned for 2023

Pentagon Secures Lockheed Martin Contract for Advanced Air-to-Air Missile

The Air Force is expected to begin fielding the Lockheed Martin AIM-260 Joint Advanced Tactical Missile (JATM) this year, replacing the Raytheon AIM-120 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile. Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall announced the accelerated production plans for the secretive JATM, which has been under development for at least two years.

The AIM-260, also known as the Joint Advanced Tactical Missile, has been prioritized by the Air Force and Navy as part of a rapid acquisition project. Kendall highlighted the importance of the missile's capabilities, particularly in countering emerging air threats.

Lockheed Martin has been awarded the contract to produce the JATM, with production expected to begin this year. The missile is designed to provide beyond-visual-range air-to-air capabilities, ensuring the Air Force's readiness to confront future air combat scenarios.
